High-school students from Senaki and Khobi have taken part in a summer programme focused on electricity, renewable energy and careers in Georgia’s energy sector.

The Energy Training Center organised Summer School 2026 as part of its project, The Path of Electricity from Production to Its Consumption.
Participants were selected through a competition involving public schools in the two municipalities. The programme combines classroom training, practical exercises and educational visits.
Students build renewable-energy prototypes
During the opening training session, Energy Training Center representative Temur Tordinava introduced students to the role of the energy sector, current development trends and professional opportunities.
Participants also completed a practical exercise in which they built prototypes connected with renewable-energy technologies.
A later session was led by Tornike Apriashvili, Director of GNERC’s Electricity Department.


The training covered different sources of electricity generation and the main characteristics of renewable and non-renewable energy. Students also discussed the role of renewables in sustainable development and efforts to address climate change.
Summer school visits Khobi HPP 2
Following the classroom session, participants visited Khobi HPP 2.

The plant’s representatives explained how electricity is generated and introduced the students to its control systems, relay protection equipment, operating procedures and safety mechanisms.
The visit gave participants an opportunity to see electricity production in an operating power plant rather than only learning about it in the classroom.
Khobi HPP 2 has an installed capacity of 44.5 MW and expected annual generation of approximately 200 million kWh, according to the project owner.
The Energy Training Center said the wider programme aims to improve students’ understanding of energy and introduce them to possible professional pathways in the sector.
Summer School 2026 is the third edition of the project.
For Georgia’s energy industry, programmes of this kind can help connect school education with the technical, regulatory and operational work behind electricity generation and supply.
