Georgian renewable-energy developer AG Energy has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Chinese wind-turbine manufacturer Ming Yang Smart Energy to support the development of wind projects in Georgia and the wider Caucasus, a partnership that includes the proposed 187 MW Gogni Wind Farm.

According to Ming Yang, the cooperation will cover wind-turbine and substation equipment, project financing and investment, as well as long-term operation and maintenance services.

The companies also plan to work on approximately 500 MW of onshore wind projects across the Caucasus region.

Ming Yang described Gogni Wind Farm as Georgia’s second-largest planned wind project. The partnership could provide AG Energy with access to equipment, financing structures and technical services across the project-development cycle.

The announcement does not confirm that Gogni has reached financial close or entered construction. Further development will depend on permitting, grid connection, financing and final investment decisions.

Georgia currently has limited operating wind capacity compared with hydropower, but several larger projects are under development. Partnerships between local developers and international manufacturers could play an important role in moving planned capacity toward construction.
