The first turbine has been installed at the 206 MW Ruisi Wind Farm near Gori, marking a significant construction milestone for what is planned to become Georgia’s largest wind power project.
The project is designed to use 33 Goldwind GW171 turbines, each rated at 6.25 MW. Goldwind is supplying the equipment and is expected to provide operation and maintenance services for 15 years.
The company announced completion of the first installation on 30 January 2026. According to Goldwind, the initial turbine-erection process was completed within seven days despite mountainous terrain and winter conditions.
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate approximately 600 GWh of electricity annually. That would represent a substantial expansion of a wind sector that currently contributes only a small share of Georgia’s power generation.
The project is located in the Gori and Kareli area of Shida Kartli. Its scale is far larger than the country’s existing wind capacity and would help diversify a system still dominated by hydropower.
Wind generation can complement hydro by adding output from a resource with a different seasonal and daily profile. Its system value will nevertheless depend on transmission access, balancing capacity and the timely completion of the remaining construction programme.
The first installed turbine does not mean the entire plant is operational, but it provides clear evidence that the project has moved beyond development and procurement into physical construction.
